Giving our best despite our feelings

During this period of Lent we have focused not of giving up something but offering something of ourselves to others, and we have used as a our focus for those thoughts, the passage from Romans 12. We’ve looked previously at what it means to treat other members of the church as our Christian brothers and sisters, and with this week’s passage Paul gets even more counter-cultural.

Romans 12:9 - 13

Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good. Be devoted to one another in love. Honour one another above yourselves. Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervour, serving the Lord. Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer. Share with the Lord’s people who are in need. Practise hospitality.

Lent 1

Wednesday marked the start of 40acts: a 40-day challenge during Lent to transform our generosity. The passage that we’re going to be looking at alongside the challenge is Romans 12, a turning point in Paul’s letter to the Romans. The whole chapter is concerned with the way that we live, in the light of everything that Paul has expressed about our salvation in the previous 11 chapters.
